About Me

January 18th, 2008 by John Howie

I am a tattoo artist currently living and working in Philadelphia at Moo Tattoo. I am available Friday through Tuesday. I can’t claim to have particular style that I prefer. Tattooing is a very fluid medium in that it relies heavily upon the client’s ideas and expectations. For me each tattoo has its own unique set of challenges and techniques. One week I may be really into doing lettering, the next colorful flowers with no outline. It always changes and thats what I love about the art form.

I also do freelance graphic design. I’ve done a number of various projects locally for small businesses, venues, bands, djs, etc.  I am fluent with Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop, though I prefer not to use photographic material often. My approach is best described as geometric minimalism, however if the project warrants  I like to incorporate illustration as well. I am always interested in new projects so feel free to email me for more information.

My training is multifaceted. I have an Associates Degree of Fine Art with focus on graphic design. I was apprenticed by Noah Webster of Moo Tattoo, and subsequently have been tattooing there for Five years. Other experience includes: interior murals and decorative finishing under Eric Potts, countless cover/flyer art for local bands, adolescent delinquency in the form of graffiti, and I have been actively drawing since age five. I have also had a slurry of employment ranging from toy store clerk to jackhammering (though I don’t tattoo like I used to brutalize cement).
